Say Goodbye
Reaching back
Sifting through the years of memories
 So many good times

 So many friends
 So many farewells
 So much emotional baggage
Left behind at the countless crossroads.
A life full of sadness and regret
All dead and buried under the stars.
You stand on one side of a swift river
 They watch you silently
 From across the shimmering surface
And shining up from the reflection
Are all those who are no longer with you
No longer there to send you on your way.
 Your paths split here
They separate for good at this crossing
And if you see them again
 A glance and soft greeting
Will be all that’s left of your shared history.
 You are not scared anymore
 You can face tomorrow’s shadows
 Standing tall, gaze steady.
You are stronger because of them
 Strong enough to
Lift your hands toward the sun
 Soar toward the sky
 Say this is the end.
 You’ll always remember them
 Even if, in future springs
 You accomplish everything you wanted
 Here, now, today,
 You still have to say
 Goodbye.
