History Books Can Only Remember So Much
they say you start dying the day you were born,
so maybe that’s proof that life is meaningless,
in the way that words are
 when slurred with heavy tongues
as a result of too much alcohol
 flooding your lungs.

I guess we live in the same way I give myself scars:
 knowing one day,
 it’ll all fade away
with no reminder of the pain
 that once ruled your days.

 and all the sleepless nights
(all the good and the bad)
 were not worth the fights,
 because death always wins
 in the battle of life.
