Drowning in Words
Drowning in words is a curious way
to bring silence to the tiny bubbles of air
trapped inside of your lungs.
They make their way
through the tiny nooks and crevices
in the bony ridges of your skull,
and what surprises you the most
is the feeling of softness
as they trace their way
through the tunnels in your head.
Your arms reach to the surface
and break through the thin curve
between your body and empty air,
but here there are no ledges to grip,
no soft edges for your toes to softly
hold on to.
Your shallowing breaths find nothing else
in the empty sea you tread in,
but find solace in the comforting hum
of the cool and soothing silence
that pulls you further yet
from the surface.
