Upon Seeing the Great Gatsby
It was the greatest love story of all time
The suspense swept them all off in a swish
Of those layers of lace that danced and danced around effortlessly
Never catching the dust left behind
She was as light as the feathers that accessorized her gentle face
The light that always seemed to bask her in the midst of his palace
And in those times he knew nothing could be grander
And she swept them all away
Holding them close to her like feathers that have floated far off into air
Only he was left to stand his ground
He wished and hoped and wished to fly
To be that feather that caressed her cheek ever so slightly
Tucked away safely behind her ear
Where he could whisper all the glories of the world he meant to create for them
Though they were ever to remain fanciful dreams without her there to star in this show
And yet he did not grace her ear as he wished
But was swept away by another feather
Yet again, a true diamond in the rough
Reduced to a fleck of dust
Held to the ground
Forever left behind.
Perhaps the past could be repeated
But all he would ever be Was Great.
