A Dream. A Memory. A Reality.
A soft breeze blows leaves across the ground.
The gentle, steady thrumming of my heart in my chest, my ears hear everything
And my eyes see all but it is as though I am watching it all through a T.V. screen;
Watching someone else's life play out... Not my own.
The reality of the situation is not real, it simply cannot be so.
Around me people of all sorts, have wandering red rimmed eyes and compassionate smiles.
We look like a worn black and white photograph from ages ago.
After what seems like hours, saying silent prayers to ourselves,
Wishing to go back to only months before to fix whatever we each could.
My family and I sit in the front row. Watching as out breathing becomes labored,
And our faces become wet with tears.
In that very moment I felt the tick of every second moving with the beat of my heart.
The fragile music lingered in the air making it harder to keep our composure.
With every thought of the future our hearts break even further.
And almost three years later those heart wrenching words still linger in my ears.
"Dear loved ones, family and friends,"
"We are gathered here, not to mourn the life of a loved one,"
"But to honor the time we spent with out dearly missed,"
"Buddy D."
