Irrational Thoughts
Night is when
The dead people come out
From their hidden place in my mind
And I find they lay in my floor
The tears fall from my eyes
Slide from my cheeks and land
Safely on my pillow
And the pounding of my heart
Makes me feel like I’m suffocating
The sound of blood pulsing behind my ears
Morphs reality into something unknown
Nothing turns off the fear
Lay there and pray
Shaking and shivering
Trying to push away
Everything unwanted
Hands locked, clutching the blankets
Eyes squeezed tightly shut
Haunted by thoughts, irrational thoughts
The thought of never sleeping
Keeps me awake
All night, in the dark, eyes wide open
Waiting for someone to wake up
Consumed with thoughts
About death
About hell
I’m not going to hell
But I lay there
And no one knows
The pounding in my heart begins
And I lay there in the dark and pray
