The Deer
Brown pelted
Creature of the woods
Volleys back my glance
Grazing on the grass wet with dew
Its ears stout and aroused
Pinpointing any sound it hears
Its soft, charcoal nose bobs
Up and down it gyrates
I ever so slightly move
And grope for my phone
Just one picture
That’s all
The deer shifts its hooves
Uncertainty darkens its spotted face
Joints contracted for a quick getaway
Perfect shot
As if synchronized with my camera
The creature’s legs extend
I apply pressure to the capture button
Blinding flash, then nothing
