Laying in the cool damp grass
Feeling the warm sun hit my skin
Listening to the soft mumble
Of my parents laughing in the distance.
I lay there almost in a trance
Breathing in the smooth summer air
And smelling the sweet barbeque
My Dad is preparing after our
Long swim in the lake.
This is my favorite time of year.
Laughing and having fun with
My whole family near.
Hearing the waves meet the sandy beach
Making a soothing noise while I still lay
And remember this day
As I know it will be one to remember.
I finally stand up
And join my family for the meal of a lifetime.
