L.B.I.
Walking along the sand,
Breathing in, the air.
Taking in the warmth of the sun,
Feeling the cool water,
Run across your toes.
Listening to the waves crash around you.
Hearing the faint laughter.
Children run by you covered in sand.
Splashing in the water,
Getting knocked out by waves,
Still laughing.
Guys showing off their poor football skills.
Girls giggling as they walk by.
Birds flying around,
Landing light on the sand.
Mothers tanning as their kids play in the sand.
Teenagers talking on the beach.
Groups of kids running around.
You watch all the street signs go by,
Never really paying attention.
You are taking in the beauty.
The waves that hit the shore just right.
The sun slowly going down.
A light breeze hits your face,
Still trying to hold onto the warmth from the sun.
As you slowly walk home the day gets cooler.
Tomorrow you will be in the sand again.
As you reach the street families are leaving.
Dragging kids home,
Promising ice cream if they are good.
Girls saying good-bye to their summer crushes.
Mothers hoping their children will fall asleep early.
Fathers carrying beach chairs and umbrellas.
As you pick up your sandals there is still one left.
The one of a small child who will return later saying it wasn’t their fault.
Their parents will laugh and take them home,
Tomorrow it will happen again.
As you reach the house you head for the shower.
Washing away the sand you brought back,
Making room for,
Tomorrow’s sand.
As you get ready for dinner you take a look around.
Tomorrow will come too soon.
You wish you could live in that moment forever.
When the birds stop singing,
Children stop screaming.
When you can hear the faint crashing,
Of the waves in the distance.
As you go to bed the cool air from the fans,
Rock you to sleep.
In the morning you will walk that same beach again.
The sun will be shinning,
Families will pile on the beach,
Dragging their kids along.
It’s a cycle that never seems to end.
When they first arrive,
They don’t want to be there.
In the end no one wants to leave.
You want to feel the sun.
Listen to the children beg for ice cream.
Watch the guys make fools of themselves.
While dreaming of a perfect tomorrow.
Down on the shores of L.B.I.
