don't judge a book by its cover

Autism hurts within my heart
I can't talk, its hard to sleep
I dream a dream and its alright
But when I wake, I'm dead again

No social life, I'm so alone
I try to live, with so much pain
I am smart, but they don't know
The ain I feel is all in vain
And all my actions, I've no control

I'm sorry mom and dad
I'm sorry everyone
For my behavior
The actions that i've acted upon
I never meant to hurt you
To cause you so much pain and sorrow

So many grieve came your way
I have autism, that's who I am
Just love me for me
And I'll do the same

I want to be treated like the rest
I'm isolated, so confused
There's no cure, I'm so upset
I get on with life, that's all i have

I want you to promise me one thing
When you're around someone
with autism like me
Just be yourself
And everything will be alright

I have autism, it kills me inside
But I still love, and feel pain
I'm regular, just like you
So don't treat me as a stranger

Be a friend, be my friend
I need someone, to care for me
I know its hard, but you just try
I might inspire you one day
With the words still unspoken
And yet, as I live
I continue on with autism

The author's comments:
i was inspired to write this piece of poem because i know someone who has autism, and it's hard for them. I just wanted them to know that they are not alone. I hope this poem has touched your hearts.
