Tickets
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears.
More like lend me your rears
Because we are ready to grab our diplomas, turn our backs toward the stage
And charge out that door.
We’re ready to start our lives
Start adventures.
Yeah right,
That’s what I thought 9 months before this day;
I was ready to leave the childish ways of high school behind
Until I woke up this morning and put on my dress
Realizing that later I would put on my cap and gown
Saunter down the aisle
And receive my ticket out of here-
The ticket that I didn’t know I didn’t want,
Until this morning
Don’t get me wrong,
I’m excited to leave this school,
Leave this town,
But I have realized that high school is more like a metaphor.
Things don’t get better from here
Our lives will be the same as they were
Just on a different level.
Let me explain-
We’ve been prepared to deal with the monotony that life gives us,
However, whether or not we enjoyed our lives in high school
Determines if we will continue to do so in our careers,
In our lives.
We’ll wake up in the morning, dreading the day ahead of us,
Or we can choose to open ourselves to what we will learn that day,
Or what we’ll teach
The interactions with our classmates have shown us how we can handle the world.
Sure, there are some people each one of us don’t enjoy the company of,
But instead of expressing it in public
If we accept, more than deny
We’re less likely to get fired.
All jokes aside,
High school is the greatest thing that’s happened to us-
Not a lot has happened to us.
We have discovered who we are,
And if you haven’t
It’s time to find yourself,
Or change yourself.
The cool kids,
The dorks,
The people that you sometimes forget even go to this school,
The quiet ones,
The loud ones-
We’ve been labeled.
Some have more than others,
But we have these labels for a reason.
Not as a definition of high school social class,
But as how you portray yourself.
If you don’t like the label you wear,
Now is the time to change it,
But only if you feel it’s not you.
Who cares what everyone else thinks.
You can let it get you down,
Or you can embrace it like it’s the last thing you’ll hold on to,
Because trust me,
Being called the loud, dorky, weird kid
Is about the best compliment I can ever receive.
But it doesn’t matter,
We’re all leaving anyway.
We’re facing a fresh start.
I can say high school was great;
Others won’t agree with me.
I haven’t seen the things that some have,
Some haven’t experienced things that I have.
We’re all different,
But I can guarantee,
I can guarantee
Every one of us,
Even those who have praised our exit the most,
Will look back and say:
High School.
Remember that cake walk?
Why did I wish it away?
