Autumn
The transition from summer to winter.
Where the leaves change color into
Red orange and yellow hues.
The weather’s getting cooler,
No heat stroke and no hyperthermia,
You just want to stay outside
All day every day.
Drinking hot cocoa to take
Some of the chill off
When you do get cold.
Hoodies and jeans,
Hats and boots,
The occasional pair of mittens.
Raking the leaves into a big pile,
Then jumping into it so many times
That you have to start over.
Going to the orchard,
Picking the sweetest apples to make
Your grandmother’s famous apple pie.
Going to the pumpkin patch
In search of the perfect pumpkin,
Going to the corn field to tackle a maze.
Putting out the Halloween decorations,
Carving pumpkins with silly faces,
And baking desserts
That contains cinnamon and pumpkin spice.
Bobbing for apples, drinking cider,
Hayrides and candied apples.
Kids shrieking and laughing as they
Go around the neighborhood,
Clad in their princess dresses
And their cowboy boots,
Carrying plastic orange jack o lanterns
In search of the ever treasured candy.
The seasonal transition
From summer to winter,
My favorite time of the year.
