The desperate call of a lone soldier,
he just needed a friend’s shoulder,
to cry and weep over all of his troubles,
to help him walk before he stumbles,

shot down by time and exhaustion,
he knew this battle would cost him,
he’s fighting now for his country,
not worried about little things like money,

He knew his time would be up soon,
The distant call of a wounded loon,
his companion pushing to move forward,
he would not bow down and be a coward,

They were lost but did not give up,
what he did was already enough,
he took his gun and pride with him,
when the other man had shot him,

His family now mourns with sorrow,
knowing they won’t see him tomorrow,
his son most sad,
never once being able to see his dad,

he looks up to his dad for he saved lives,
even with a gun and a knife,
the desperate call of a lone soldier,
he just needs a friend’s shoulder,
