Where I am from
I am from the wide back country roads
From sunny skies to Jewish stars that soar high
I am from the taste of blood but happiness in my mouth
I am from the fish in the ocean (wet, slimy, but tastes like heaven)
I am from the tragic grandpa deaths and football championship winners.
I am from Mom and Dad always holding me back but then pushing me forward.
The nature of my friends, annoying or not, is always my paradise through life.
I am from the millions of cheering fans of all of the different stadiums.
To love the smell of Gingerbread on a cold cold Christmas morning.
The feeling of new shoes on my feet that give men those "Wing$"
to a new hat on small head that is just hanging off of my bed.
I’m the feeling of a chopping knife grasped in my hands.
I'm that "Pretty Boy Swag" to that "Wagon Wheel."
From our "You Shook Me All Night Long" times
To our "We Will Rock You" moments.
Small people without hope.
I am that HOPE!

The author's comments:
This poem is based on George Ella Lyon's poem "Where I'm From." I chose dramatic events in my life that pushed me to become the person I am today.
