A Poem for You
April 28, 2013
You were like gasoline
burning in match light and dull candle
fire. You were like the morning,
like fog that chokes and blinds
like the water. You
were like salt stinging clogging
scraping against the street and tire treads
and souls. You sipped streetlamps
like California wine, sonnet
sweet. You stripped the sky of
blue and left the grey,
the color of your eyes in fluorescence.
You were like electricity, shocking,
but your heart was too thin.
