Dear Society
Listen.
Listen to what I have to say,
It’s time to stand up for me:
Myself.
To let my voice be heard.
Listen
To what I have to say
not what you want to hear.
Listen.
to me, him, her, them,
Us.
Listen:
To the used and abused,
to the damaged and wanting.
Needing to be heard.
Listen
to the helter-skelter of our voices
and not the monotone of yours.
You repeat,
The same old phrase over and over;
Plugging your ears,
looking the other way
you look at us dumbly
When we do not comprehend.
Now, don’t you understand,
That I’m not changing myself?
Not for you,
Her,
Him,
Them.
It’s honestly ironic,
Funny in it’s heavy truth.
You tell us to listen;
Well...
Why don’t you take your own advice?
Listen,
before this irony,
freezing in it’s hypocrisy
extinguishing my words
Dead in my throat.
Listen. to what I , him, her, them,
We, have to say.
So hear my voice,
As i finally dig up my courage for this one stand
to tell you that I am me.
Myself.
Not you.
And that’s perfectly fine.
Dear society:
Let me speak before i lose my grip.
before the courage slips away from my tightly clasped hands.
Before I sit down and refuse to speak my mind again.
Listen.
Sit down,
Shut your mouth,
Zip the lip,
and throw away the key.
You’d be amazed at what happens when you just...
Listen.
