Fear.
Lub dub, Lub dub, Lub dub
Heart racing, numb Legs, Head throbbing
The end is nearer than expected
Anticipating
Swift, long, painful strides
Eyes securely shut, limiting the world around
The end is in clear sight
Almost-
The ghastly roar is heard
Legs buckling, instantly closer to the ground
The end is far from here
Tumult
Shrieks, screams, shouts
Immediate flood of worried shoes, filling the road
Visibility fading, mind blurring
Blackness.
Heavy Eyelids, faintly open
Suddenly, rapidly, wheelchair rolling beneath
Neon yellow vests racing by
Uncertainty
Confined in a hospital room
Alert, looking down, upon the unharmed Body
The lucky one, all limbs intact
Realization
Continuous disaster outside
Smoke cleared, injuries displayed, tears shed
Life, sadly forever altered
Fear.

The author's comments:
This piece is referring to the Boston Marathon Incident 2013, in honor of those affected by the bombings. I hope people will understand the reasons for the details I included (capitalizing body parts, pattern of line lengths, lack of pronouns) and take away that it is not only the people physically hurt that are affected, but also emotionally.
