Flame
Don’t let the flame of hope,
Flicker and die.
For the tiny flame,
Though tiny and minuscule.
Is what keeps us alive.
Shines a light in our darkest hour,
And glows steadily,
While everything else fades,
In the horrors of life.
It may burn you,
Scar you,
Make you want to hide away in the dark.
But it will never stop shining,
No matter if the wick is only glowing,
Or burning full on.
They can shift the foundation your faith has made,
Tear down your walls of dignity
Drain away the last of your innocence.
But they can never
Put your flame of hope out.
Only you can do that.
Let your fear smother the wick,
Your doubt make the wax thin,
Your hand snuff the flame.
Till all that is left of your hope,
Is smoke.
