A Significant Place

I close my eyes
A slight breeze blows by
It tickles my spine

Motivational words dance through my ears
I slowly stand
Trying to forget my fears

The sun beats down on my back
Stretching my legs one final time
I stare at the track

Hoping not to be out run
I take my mark
Waiting for the gun

Timers start the clock
Smoke fills the air
I explode out of the starting block
