Winter 1932
In the winter of 1932
I first saw death from a different perspective
He was a sad man who just lost his brother
My father helped kill him
I tried to run but got fenced in
Two days later my brother and mother was dead
Death followed me like a unwanted shadow
Always lurking in front, behind, or walking side by side
My father told me he killed to make a better life for his family
His whole family is dead
All except me
Perdition is not just a place in Michigan
It is punishment, hell for the soul
I knew I was on that road
It was my fault they were dead
I couldn't stay home and do my math
I was curious what my father did
Perdition is not just a place in Michigan
It is where my father was killed
It is where I became a orphan
Left all alone at the age of 12
In the winter of 1932
