In the wood walks a wolf all night.
He comes out underneath a midnight moon, so bright.
You can see him stare up at the sky with wide and glowing eyes,
toward a face formed of craters and dusty voids.
It just stares back every time.
And the wolf he always yells with all his great and ancient might,
"you know if I could reach id take myself a bite."

Through winded fields he moves, like a shadow made of ruffled grayish fur.
He is searching for a fight,
and those who see him better pray for light,
for he swallows wary travelers like a bone.
And he sucks up all their blood, caring not for the life that it once feed,
and leaves it dripping from his snout unto dead leaves trampled underfoot.
A lone wolf that brings fright, abomination of the night,
he takes his cues from deep within the black part of his heart.

Still he trounces on, though he's left behind the meadow and the farm
to travel past coffee shops and through lawns.
I know it cause ive seen it ,
though I did not first believe it,
underneath a midnight moon so bright.
Sulking at my windowsill and calling out my name,
and hoping for a bite of soul
to keep its great big stomach full.
Is it myth or is it real?
I taught these creatures were long gone.
I guess I must be wrong,
for no ghost is trouncing all throughout my lawn.
And i got quite defiant and not softly did i tell it
"Damn you wolf you only eat and never feed,
Drag brave young carcasses into your threshold to turn to meat.
I think i know why you haunt me in my sleep."
And it howled and bit my hand
and stayed behind me through the night,
just nipping at my knees and whispering secrets in my ear.

They tell me it was just a dream, born of fear and broken years.
Regardless, I now know what's in the night,
it's a coward who hates to fight,
but turns men into slaves and empty graves.
But i wont try and warn you,
and I sure as hell won't scorn you,
if that trickster sneaks up and takes a bite.
