In Her SHoes
Forcefully ripped out of her nurturing mother’s arms. The safety blanket yanked out of the palm of her tiny hands was complete torture. Held prisoner for a crime she did not commit; guilty until proven innocent in her life. Walking with confusion because life didn’t cement her daddy’s shoes by her side. No such thing as “happily ever after” in her aching brown eyes. Could you walk in her shoes?
Struggling to take one step forward only to be thrown two steps back. Raised in “North Philly Badlandz” was an option. Doing the right thing is a crime in her path; being judged for saying “no” to drugs. Listening to gun fire on a daily basis became a song in her head. Seeing her friends become victims of violence broke her heart in to pieces. How can you walk in her shoes?
Only I can walk in these shoes. These are my shoes. I want to jog, run, and dance in my shoes. I don’t want to continue to walk in my shoes. I will rise from this. I want to continue getting stronger as the days pass. I will not let this break me and I refuse to be another statistic. Proving everyone wrong is my goal as I continue to reach for the stars. Please clear your mind and ask yourself, would you want to walk in my shoes?
