The Chase
Bolting and jumping over the branches beneath me
I sneak around the grassy emerald forest so I’m not seen
Surrounded by the towering trees that reach the sky
I sprint away from the deafening stomps of the threatening footsteps behind me
The wet and spongy Earth sinks under my bare feet as I race
I hear the earsplitting screams yelling my name
Warm liquid drips down my face and onto my lips
The brackish metallic taste fills my mouth
The sickly smell of death travels into the atmosphere
The thudding of the murderer is close behind me now
All the signs of life in the forest cease
Only my desperate heart beat can be heard
No more chirping of the birds, no more rustling in the bushes
The world stilled and I accepted my fate in these deserted woods
Relieving myself of the chase I surrender and close my eyes
Shutting out the world and letting the darkness enter
The moss around me is the last I witness before my eyes are sealed forever
