Ode to The Little One
There is a five-toothed grin that melts me,
A hand with small fingers that warms my heart—
She is the definition of a true blue-eyed beauty,
With the evident determination of her father,
The same button nose to match his, too.
I see so much in the strands of her eyes,
This radiant little darling, captivator of my attention—
She holds it in the depths of her untarnished soul,
Skips around with it on the fresh cut lawn,
Wraps her arms around her daddy and I with it.
Such a fragile little combination of genes,
I hold it in the pit of my chest that she trusts me,
Relies on me to be at her beckoning call,
Allows me to whisk her away on endless adventures—
She is not my own, but the only one I’ll ever need.
