Whatever it Was...
There is a force that crashed into me,
One that you relinquished so bitterly,
Maybe the kind that wasn’t ever intended by you,
Nonetheless, I have gambled my last hope on it,
Leaving our predetermined fate in each place I go.
I can’t be so sure it wasn’t your off color tie that day,
Or the soles that had been worn in your dressiest shoes,
I just know I’ve been trying to convince myself, to no avail,
That it wasn’t the sound of your alluring voice tapping on the drum of my ear, or,
The shock that rattled through my body when you filled the spaces between our fingers.
With nothing but fail, I try so hard not to fall any further,
Grab onto the branches on my way down, grip them for dear life,
Yet, for some inexplicable reason, when my heart sinks to my toes,
And the butterflies conduct their song and dance in my gut,
Since I know it is all for you, I cannot help but take pleasure in the feeling.
