Vow to Love
She’d promised herself, so long ago now,
That she’d never grow to hate a single thing,
But as her heart grew more fond of a man,
There are things that she can’t help but despise.
Pain, when it rests in his exhausted smile,
The hurt he contains inside of him,
Especially when she played a part in creating it,
She cannot help but be bitter towards that.
Though she vowed as a child to love all things,
She refuses to cherish the sickness he’s obtained,
Or the way it conflicts everything that they have,
A syndrome that causes him to be desperate for her life.
Something more she cannot stomach—
The way she is so drunk from his presence,
Her tongue trips over the words that dance on the tip,
And she has grown glossy eyed from his invigorating touch.
