Conquer the Waves
Legs knock back and forth like a tree’s limbs in a spring storm.
The water churns rapidly down below as rocks stick out like broken glass.
A man roars louder than the ocean waves and leaps diving deep, deep deep.
Then with a splash he is in.
My mind swirls racing like a car in the Daytona 500.
My body does a dance to and from the ledge.
Then out of the corner of my eye I see Iris hurdle off the ledge. She dives deep, deep, deep.
With a splash she is in.
Then I am alone on this ledge looking into the deep blue beyond.
So I take one last salty breath, and let out the air in a terrified screech.
As I soar down deep, deep, deep.
The air reaches out to me trying to catch my fall but I slip through their invisible hands.
All of a sudden I am absorbed by the icy North Sea.
I emerge from the freezing below and give a battle cry.
No sea can conquer me.
