I'm Free

March 12, 2013

I stand in a grassy meadow,
feet poised playfully.
The woods, stark and tall behind me.
Sturdy. Immovable. Secure.
Arms spread wide, I twirl and twirl and twirl.
I spin through eternity.
A fresh breeze whips my hair into a frenzy.
The damp ground chills my feet,
leeching heat out of my warm body,
pulling it further, deeper, away from me.
I feel cool,
part of the forest,
of the trees,
as I fly beyond, past myself.
I feel free.

This was a piece I wrote as an assignment in my Creative Writing class. I was inspired by a beautiful black and white picture of a girl standing in a meadow in a white cotton dress with her arms spread out mid-twirl.
