In Retrospect
I wonder if you think of us
if you left some things unsaid
if you've since laughed so easily;
Do the memories play inside your head?
Did you fall for me so wholesomely
as I did for you?
Were my flaws mere quirks
Were my eyes your favorite sight?
Was the sun so bright that day
and the leaves so green?
And when you put your lips on mine,
were you lost in me?
Did you feel me slip away
Did you want to scream?
Did you make a grave mistake
Leaving our love to bleed?
Did you ever discover that
without me, life loses flavor?
That we can deny and blame and lie
But such things don't make us braver?
If these thoughts have crossed your mind
Then I guess I still can say
That we remain two of a kind,
because you haunt me every day.
