Tap, Tap, Tap
Goes the sole of my shoe
Heel to Toe
Shoelaces flopping on the black top
My hair blowing in my face from the wind
Unseen due to the darkness
Illuminated only by the twinkling stars
And the lonely lamps of the night owls
Still awake in their homes
I take timid steps
Closing the gap between me and my destination
All the while being chased by my shadows
Though created by the dim streetlamps, they contain more than meets the eye
Feeling watched by more than just my past, I spin around
Only to find a bird as black as the night
Scavenging for crumbs
Oddly hungry when the stars are up
Why is he not buried down sleeping in his nest?
Why am I not asking the same question to myself?
Why am I not home sleeping in my bed safe and sound?
My mind wanders just as I wander these barren streets
Apparently not alone
Crouching down feeling the cool gravel scarp up my knees
I pick up a lonesome French fry
Holding a peace offering
The jet black crow hops on one foot, closing his gap to his destination: me
A trust agreement passing between us
He clamps down on the fry and hobbles off
The injured bird must provide for himself at night
The lonely girl must find savior for herself at night
Alike
Finding one another in the nocturnal hours
Bonds formed
That no one understands
Except
The dark crow
The dark girl
&
The dark night
