An Iowa Winter
An Iowa winter, a bipolar season;
Despite having winter in its name, there are days where the temperature says otherwise.
I remember one day in January, the thermometer said “Fifty degrees.”
Shocking results, I thought.
I could get by with only a hoodie to keep me warm.
All that changed in less then two days.
Temperatures dropped like a penny falling from the top of a building.
It was fifty degrees one day.
The next day, it dropped into the single digits.
Two coats could not keep me warm.
The wind came with the coldness. It was blowing snow from roadsides and rooftops.
I rather endorse the effects of climate change than endure this blistering cold.
I love Iowa, but not enough to embrace the cold.
If only spring could come sooner.
The warm, gentle air and the songs of birds please me deeply.
Spring is a reminder of the coming of summer.
Summer is the greatest of all seasons.
No school, no rules.
The way I wish time would be right now.
