" Life is too short to be shy." - Stephen Payne

My life about to end,
A knife at my wrists bend.
The pressure applied,
I think of how much I've lied.
I thought I could stay
And be fine this way.
My life, in a second, gone,
My friends and family would move on.
A child approaches,
A shine in her eyes
And asks me why
I have tears in mine.
I tell her to leave.
She Won’t understand.
She thinks for a minute
Then takes my hand.
“Are you going to leave me all alone?”
I look silently towards my home.
In my mind, this can’t be real.
A little girl, sent to make me feel.
I do not answer,
But look away in shame.
How could I be so selfish?
Leaving others with my pain.
I lower the knife
Preserving my life.
The girl kisses my wrist
And says “That will help.”
As she leaves me there
I look away.
She is gone,
Not a sign she was ever there.
I am left alone
With a choice.
Will I continue life,
Or end my voice?
I slowly put the knife away,
Forcing myself to live
At least another day..

written September 22nd, 2009. My dear little Katy saved my life that day. She was only six years old, but she seemed to understand a lot for her age. I kind of adopted her because her parents weren't the best people. She was always there when i was sad and seemed to always know where to find me. I thank that little girl and will never forget her.
