Elegy to "Weed"

You were cheap
And easy to get
Spread out in a plastic bag
Would have been a honor
To keep you preserved in a gar
But there are no gars
That would not become stale.

So it was time
To light you up
Into something useless
Time to inhale
After taking a puff.

The fortunate
Put you on the map
Many rappers dragged
You into their music
Before the poor
Could use you.

You cradled calmness in character
And played the cool type
When the tobacco left the gar
To slip you in
So now, go head

Make my day
And take your rest
To get junkies and wannabes
Off our streets

Or get a flower pot
Plant yourself again
Show us how to
Live without you.

You've played a role
In many of our lives
But now too powerful
For me to let you ruin another.

I was inspired to write this poem because I know many people who use this type of drug and it had caused them to degrade themselves.
