The Darkness
The darkness is always looming
on the edge of my mind
taunting me with snatches of happiness
touching with me with tinges of madness and
I can't tell the difference between reality and dreams.
Sometimes
when I am too tired to fight anymore
I let it win
because it's easier
to surrender.
I sit on the edge of the cliff
looking down into oblivion
It calls up to me,
tempts me
promises me peace.
All it would take
is one muscle twitch
one slip of my foot
one accidental misstep
and the darkness
would swallow me whole
offering urgent relief.
Then
the sun rises
and the only thing
I want more than to die
is to be enveloped by his
warm rays
because I know
then that everything
will be alright.
