The polish chips
as her nails drum along
the pointed caps of her
exposed knees.
Flakes of red cascade
onto the tiled floor
like dried splatters of blood
from a newly opened wound.
The chip of a nail is a glimpse
into her future:
slowly, she'll fall apart
until nothing is left but
dark memories and empty tubes
of lipstick.
