Anne's Story

I am Anne
And this is how my story began.
My mommy went away
I guess she had nothing else to say.

My daddy is here
But I don’t like it when he drinks his beer.
He is in the other room
I’ll be in trouble soon.

I try not to think about that
I just sit and wait with my cat.
He is coming, I see
Oh please Lord, don’t let him get me.

I am good, I try to be
But why does he have to hit me?
On my bed I sat
Just hugging my cat.

When I go to school
I remember my rule.
If they ask about my scars
I say I fell on the monkey bars.

I get home and my cat is nowhere in sight
I know something’s not right.
I call and call for my cat
He is lying on the floor, he is flat.

My cat is in Heaven.
I don’t know what to do, I’m only seven.
My dad comes in
He hits me again.

He says not to tell
But I scream and yell.
Daddy pulls out his gun
I try to run.

It’s too late.
Oh, why is my daddy so full of hate?
He wipes up the blood
And throws my body in the mud.

I am in Heaven
Even though I’m only seven.
My eyes are bright
I see the light.

The pain and the hurt have stopped.
No longer will I be popped.
I am happy as can be
Because my mommy and cat are with me.

My name is Anne
And that’s my story.
Me and my cat are
All full of glory.

I was inspired to write this poem by the growing child abuse problem. I would like to raise awareness ans speak out for the children who are in these situations.
