Conformity
There once was a town in the mountains
A stereotypical suburbia
Cookie-cutter houses lined up on the streets
like produce on a grocery store shelf
Everyone was fed the same pop music
and same political ideology
Lady Gaga and the status quo
Everyone wanted to look the same
and be the same
Same North Faces,
same Toyotas,
same hopes
and same dreams
Different? No such thing
Everyone had to fit in, make the same salary,
own the same shoes, keep up with the neighbors
Eventually, this suburban struggle got out of hand,
to the point where the citizens had evolved
to be the exact same
The same chemical makeup, same physical appearance
Blue eyes, stocky build, trendy hair
No variation whatsoever
Exactly what everyone had always wanted
The same
One day a child caught a deadly virus
which soon spread throughout the town
Everyone in the town became affected by this malady
No one was immune to its detrimental effects
All suffering the same demise
Victims of the same disease
It is no surprise, then,
that everyone in that town is dead now
The same
