Roses
She wants to be an artist.
When she was young,
red was her favorite color.
She loved the roses
in the backyard
even though they pricked her,
sometimes making her cry,
but the roses were beautiful
and as mom always said,
“Beauty comes with sacrifice.”
She remembered this as she started her masterpiece.
Her demons her inspiration
and her wrists her canvas,
however, she did not feel beautiful
although, she knew what she would sacrifice
just to feel that way.
