City life
you think you're lonely?

 look out the window.
the sidewalk echoes the steps of thousands
marching towards their purposes-- getting coffee to last through the night shift or
meeting up with an almost-forgotten friend
the thickened air smokes with the goals
of many, the desires of many,
 the dreams of all.
 tattered street vendor sighs,
boy with a green balloon sings
and kicks the puddle that holds his reflection.
the pidgeons listen to the voices of many
 and turn their heads because
even they know how the city
 thrums with life.
 change your mind.
it is impossible to be alone in the heart of generations.
