band-aids
i wish we could go back
to how it was when we were kids
and all it took to fix our hurts
was a pink band-aid
where Barbie smiled up at us.
(even then, though, we
knew it never really worked.
it looked comforting and we’d sniffle and waddle
away, but we still felt the itching burning injury on our skin
for days to come.)
