"H.O.P.E. Hold on, pain ends."

Every other day when my father awoke,
He would dress in his boots, slacks, and fire retardant coat.
My father taught me bravery in every single way,
From being a fireman to the concrete that he lay.
He would move so swift, he was so sly,
I've never seen my father cry.
My father taught me bravery in every single way,
As he leaped onto his fire truck and slowly faded away.
With the toot of a horn and a "goodbye kids,"
Or giving the neighbor a friendly concrete bid.
We would hope we would pray to see him tomorrow,
For if he would not return my family would feel sorrow.
My dad protects us even when he is gone,
From a gentle telephone call,
To "I've got to go on a run."
He is not just a hero to me,
But he is a hero to my whole family.
From saving kids from treacherous fires,
To a scratch of a tot who was caught in barbed wire.
No matter what it is big or small,
My dad will always be waiting for a call.
As the sirens sound and the firemen awake,
They prepare themselves for perhaps their sudden fate.
So when in danger or in trouble,
My dad will be there on the double.
Or saving you from that horrible scare,
That may leave you scarred with a miserable nightmare.
So when my dad puts on that fire retardant coat,
I say a prayer with hope and love,
That God will watch him from above.
