Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
Why must she show her face at all?
Her thighs are too big,
Having them skinny and tiny is what she thinks is best.

You can't even see her collarbones,
It;s a vampire hiding from the sun.
She doesn't have a skinny waist,
It's not an hourglass shape.

Lana's words run through her head,
Even when she's in bed.
The boys, the girls, they all like Carmen.
Who is Carmen?

Carmen is her friend.
She is what society would call a beauty.
She gives them butterflies,
Bats her cartoon eyes.

She would die to look like Carmen.
Her thighs are skinny toothpicks.
She has a pretty face.
When she walks, she always leaves a trace.

She's only fourteen
And she's insecure because of society.
Because of boys.
Because of Carmen.

Now I must again.
For I need an answer that just might save me from going mad.
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Why must I show my face at all?

The author's comments:
What inspired me to write this poem was that it was actually an assignment we had to do for class. I got inspired by Lana Del Rey and myself. Lana's music speaks to me because I can relate to the words and the words just flow so beautifully. This poem is about me. I am insecure about how I look because of society, boys and "Carmen". Carmen is a song title by Lana Del Rey and that name suited my friend . Carmen in reality is my closest friend who has the looks, the boys , just everything a teenage girl would want to have! I want this poem to reach out to ANYONE who's insecure because I know everyone has at least one friend who makes them hide behind their shadow.
