Her Reflection
Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
Why must she show her face at all?
Her thighs are too big,
Having them skinny and tiny is what she thinks is best.
You can't even see her collarbones,
It;s a vampire hiding from the sun.
She doesn't have a skinny waist,
It's not an hourglass shape.
Lana's words run through her head,
Even when she's in bed.
The boys, the girls, they all like Carmen.
Who is Carmen?
Carmen is her friend.
She is what society would call a beauty.
She gives them butterflies,
Bats her cartoon eyes.
She would die to look like Carmen.
Her thighs are skinny toothpicks.
She has a pretty face.
When she walks, she always leaves a trace.
She's only fourteen
And she's insecure because of society.
Because of boys.
Because of Carmen.
Now I must again.
For I need an answer that just might save me from going mad.
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Why must I show my face at all?
