Because Not All Good Things Go Together
The city is full of us.
Us who are stuck
—frozen in time.
We’re searching
And loving
And hating
And leaving
And waiting.
At the crossroads
we’ll unite again
and whisper
interests of fate
softly in our neighbors’ ears
while siren voices
scream out warnings
and vigilant hands keep time.
For the night is young
and full of rest
while above
old soulful eyes watch
as more come and go
to drink
from the sea of temptation.
A connector waits
to rescue a soul
already ruined.
When the lights go on
we see them
—our new fellow travelers.
Children
invading the grounds and
playing in the grass.
Making bets
against their minds
that one day
they’ll regret
and conceal only through conformity.
They know the secret
of mind-change reality.
Restless and wanting
we’re begging for mercy
for we are all so eager
to please
and forget.
So choose now
they coo
for soon our voices
must become one,
or we must leave
because not all good things go together.
