Oh Great Joy
My friend and I,
stood outside of his car
in my driveway,
the moon's light seeming to me
like a reassuring radiance
from a presence familiar
yet never meant to be understood,
not by me,
not by you,
not by anybody.
Because you see,
as human beings,
we're very limited.
Skin, bones, organs, blood, water, thoughts, actions,
running in place
yet feeling like we're going
somewhere great.
Yes,
humans are very limited
creatures.
Where are the starting points
to my actions?
Are they in this brain,
creating some grand illusion
of beauty and greatness?
Perhaps ignorance truly is bliss,
or perhaps bliss
is a good night
and an innocent thought.
