The Way We Are Today
The way we are today is different than
The way we were yesterday
Different than we were
Last year.
Sometimes we don’t mean to change,
But things happen that recreate the way we think
Heartbreaks
Make us stronger,
Mistakes
Make us smarter,
And the people
We know today are not who we
Knew years ago
People change,
Grow up
And even move away.
We eventually become the person
We swore we would
Never be,
Hurting those we love,
And swearing under our breath.
We look back to 4th grade
When boys had cooties,
We hadn't experienced
A failed test
But most of all,
We didn't know who we would be,
We didn't know we would be the way we are today.
