As the experts ramble,
Speech monotone and dry,
I often ponder,
"Were they always like this?"

Certainly these patricians,
Veterans of the field,
Felt an ounce of vehemence,
At one time.

They must have known,
The wonder of a night sky,
The beauty of a Shakespearean sonnet,
The feel of a paint brush.
If not,
What is it all for?

Mountains of unbridled enthusiasm,
Have a way,
Of being eroded,
By years of honor and prestige.

As the experts ramble,
Speech dry and monotone,
I often ponder,
"Is this what's to become of me?"
