on the cusp
The ocean kissed its sandy shoreline,
As life gave way and let an angel fly
Past the birds chained to the sky
Death kissed life with its flickering tongue
Raped it and indulged itself,
And threw the carcass over its shoulder
The ocean recited and lingered low tide
Watched its beloved shoreline suffer until it finally dried
Heaven was full, despite all their tries
A river of life and blood and placenta
Flowed through the mountains of my mother’s thighs
