Melting in The Melting Pot
The halls of Solon High I wander
Looking at the students‘ pictures, I ponder.
As “American” proves to be a mixture of ethnicities,
I can see the dissolution of our identities.
I reach inside myself to find the inner truth,
But all I can see is Willie Mays and Babe Ruth.
What happened to my knowledge of my heritage?
Have I lost my connection to my lineage?
Although I have lost some, I have also gained,
This is my new identity; I have no feelings of disdain.
As we’ve been melted in the melting pot,
A unified undivided America is no longer just a thought.
By integrating ourselves we form the “American” experiment,
Our blending of many cultures has left a mark so reverberant.
Now the benefit of this cultural blending still keeps us guessing,
But melting in the melting pot forms a unique culture, which is simply a blessing.
