Friends Till Death

January 23, 2013

Explosions everywhere
Animals and people screaming
Horrors surrounding them
I now know death is inevitable

As the shells come
I look for my only support
The men I call my friends
I run to the foxhole

NO!!!
It must be fate
They were taken from the earth
As quick and as sudden as-
Lightning bolts in a summer storm

The battle still go’s on
One die or thousands it still continues
Who will weep for these
Fallen soldiers?

I, it must be
They were all so young
Death stuck out is hand
And welcomed them all
Sadness fills the air

For I am the sole surviving heir
Of the fellowship we held
I must survive to tell the tale
Of these great men

Just a few months ago
We were all back home
As ordinary youth
Enjoying life
Not destroying life

How we loved being eighteen
Invincible! -we thought
Targeting the latest Zane Grey
Not being targeted by machine guns

Now the end is here
For my friends
It has changed me a great deal
I will never see life
The same again

Life is to be treasured
Enjoyed
Loved
And…

RIP with your friends
The last words I hear the medic say
The last words I hear anyone say
For my shell too, had just found me.
