Ugly Duckling

did you know that
when swans mate
they mate for life
and when one
dies the other looks
for them forever?
i don’t know much
about swans but
i think that’s
kind of sad. it
must be tiring
looking forever for
something that’s not
there. i wonder if they
ever give up
or if they just
keep on looking
even though deep down
they know that
there isn’t anything left
anymore?
